Photography Resources

This page is a list of resources that may help you in your photography journey. Education is a big part of photography but sometimes you need an additional bit of information, but don’t know where to start. All products or services shown here are ones that I either use personally or have tested and would recommend. I hope you find it useful. If there is something you’re looking for that’s not on the list, use the contact form to shoot me an email. If there is something you' would like me to know about, let me know about that as well. Maybe I’ll add it to the page.

Gear & Equipment

You’ll need more than just your skills and talents as a photographer. Your lenses and camera equipment are critical to becoming successful in sports photography.

It’s extremely unlikely you can achieve this using an mobile phone or point and shoot camera. This is especially true if you want to create noise free images shooting available-light at poorly lit high school gyms and football fields.

Image Editing Software

Rather than spend a lot of time telling you which image editing software is the best , here is a link to PC Magazine’s “The Best Photo Editing Software for 2020” article.

Ideas About Workflow

Photo Mechanic is my go-to for photographing high-resolution images requiring quick importing and metadata manipulation. Rating, classification, keywords, descriptions, Code Replacements etc. I use Photo Mechanic in my workflow because it's far faster than Lightroom when quickly culling through images to make my initial selections and entering mass metadata.

If you're wanting to become a professional (it's standard for photojournalists, which is when I originally started using it) or shoot a lot (300+ images per shoot, a couple times a month), I highly recommend giving Photo Mechanic a look. Quite often I process from 500 to over 5000 images per event.
