The Photograph
Located on the northeast side of Mount Rainier, the Winthrop Glacier is one of 29 named glaciers in Mount Rainier National Park in Washington State. Covering nearly 3.5 mile, with a volume of 18.5 billion feet. With it’s head starting at over 14,300 feet near the Columbia Crest, the Winthrop Glacier heads north and descends steeply over the uneven topography of Mount Rainier. As it’s terrain flattens, the Winthrop Glacier becomes largely rock covered with it terminating in forest at about 4,900 ft. The melt-water from the glacier drains into the White River.
In September of 2008, while hiking in and around the Sunset historic loop, I came upon this view. While I’ve photographed Mount Rainier many times over the last 40 years, I rarely get a chance to see it with unlimited visibility as seen in this print. The image was taken from Third Burroughs Mountain (7828 feet), an off-trail and about a mile beyond Second Burroughs.
Produced with multiple images and blended together in post-production, this Mount Rainier - Winthrop Glacier Panograph represents the view I saw that late summer day in 2008.

The Print
This image is printed on EPSON Metallic Luster or Somerset Velvet watercolor paper using archival EPSON Ultrachrome inks. Once each print is approved, it is then titled, numbered and signed by Robert. Only 100 of each size will be produced. A certificate of authenticity is provided with each print. No more than 100 of each size will be made.
Print sizes are approximate based on image and format. Measured the long edge true, and the fall (shorter side) depends on the individual crop of the image. Some images can be made to fit specific sizes upon request. If you have any customization requests, please contact us. All my images are printed on demand. Because of this, there is sometimes a delay before shipment. If I’m traveling for long stretches, I will contact you to let you know your print will be delayed if longer than two weeks.
